Trouw Nutrition opens its largest mill built in North America in Chilliwack, British Columbia
Trouw Nutrition North America, is proud to announce the official opening of its largest mill built in North America and located in Chilliwack, British Columbia. This state-of-the-art facility represents a significant milestone for the company and the industry, promising to set new standards for the next generations, with improved efficiency, and sustainability.
On the day of the opening, Gastón López Minder, Trouw Nutrition West Region of Canada General Manager shared: “Feeding the future is our purpose and what we are doing here in Chilliwack is basically boosting the future of an industry in which we believe in. We are not only investing in assets, but in people that can bring innovation and knowledge to elevate the livestock industry and our local economy.”
“This facility not only enhances our production capabilities but also demonstrates our commitment to innovation and sustainability. The new mill is a game-changing facility equipped with the latest in cutting-edge technology designed to optimize production and reduce environmental impact. We are dedicated to providing high-quality products to our customers while minimizing our environmental footprint for future generations,” added Walker Eliason, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Director North America.
Grand opening event
The grand opening event took place on September 11th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by 400 guests, such as local officials, producer customers and industry leaders. The plaques revealed at the event will be installed on the new mill are both dedicated to Trouw Nutrition employees. One of them reads: This feed mill was commissioned by Trouw Nutrition on September 11, 2024 and is dedicated to the employees that have worked at this site since 1958 dedicating their careers to providing sound animal nutrition, enriching the lives of animals and farmers alike, and helping to put food on the dinner tables of our community.
Guests who attended the event also had the chance to tour the facility to witness firsthand the scale and innovation of Trouw Nutrition’s largest mill built in North America.
Facts about the new Chilliwack mill
- The new mill has 50% more producing capacity than the old facility with 20% less CO2 boiler energy consumption.
- Safety: the mill counts 372,715 safe workhours during construction.
- The concrete pouring utilized 2820 cubic meters of concrete.
- More than 450 tons of structural steel were installed.
- The mill's structure reaches a height of 120 ft.
- The new mill will increase raw material storage capacity by more than 30%.
